MINDFULNESS IN MOTION (MIM):
|
To demystify the process of creating Zentangle inspired art, I have created a "time lapse" above along with sharing created tiles from groups I have led. Remember that anything is possible "one stroke at a time," and the PROCESS not the PRODUCT is what it is all about!
Thanks to "ZenLinea" for inspiration. |
The creators of the Zentangle Method describe it as “an easy-to learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns.” These patterns are called “tangles.” The word “Zentangle” is a trademark and is meant to convey in a cheeky way to suggest that many people feel more relaxed after drawing repetitive patterns; it is not meant to suggest that it is somehow connected to any religion or philosophy. The more you learn about Zentangle the more you will find the light hearted humor of it’s creators, Maria & Rick, shine through. Find out more information about Zentangle here.
A few things I like about Zentangle are that it requires ZERO artistic skill or ability. If you can write the letters “I C S O” you are ready to Zentangle. Also, it is small, portable, affordable, and time limited. As a therapist I was drawn to Zentangle because of the focus on the “process” not the product and the focus on gratitude and appreciation. Zentangle is one of many ways to practice mindfulness. Find more information about studies using the Zentangle Method here. This group is NOT an art therapy group. I started this group because I realized that even as a therapist who talks about self-care, mindfulness, engaging in pleasurable activities to others, I sometimes found it a challenge myself to actually DO it IRL (in real life as your teens might say)! This group creates a space and time to actually PRACTICE our skills in a focused way through Zentangle. Since the Zentangle Method can only be taught by a CZT (Certified Zentangle Teacher) I took the opportunity that COVID presented to get certified! This group is open to adults and teens (separate groups) whether they are counseling clients or not. Since it is beneficial for all people to practice mental health wellness, you do not need to have been diagnosed with a mental illness to attend. Prior to attending group, each person will need to go through a brief, free phone consultation to determine appropriateness for group. Groups are now forming contingent on interest. Groups must have at least 5 people to open. If you are interested in attending this group please fill out the contact form below so that I can start forming groups on days and times that work for participants. |
